Podcast Episode - Implicit Bias with Dr. Rita Cameron Wedding
In the weeks following the death of George Floyd in Minnesota and the protest that followed, I felt compelled to be part of the conversation. I couldn’t sleep one night and started googling speakers on this topic to be part of the Western Intergovernmental Child Support Engagement Council’s Micro Learning series. I ran across a video clip of Dr. Rita Cameron Wedding and in the clip she says, “talking about racism doesn’t make us racist.” This really resonated with me. Although Grays Peak has done implicit bias training and I have personally attending trainings on implicit bias this felt different. The conversation is now more raw.
You can find the podcast on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Breaker, Anchor and more. As always… listen all the way to the end for some bonus content. (#outtakes)
I reached out to Dr. Wedding and she responded almost immediately and was on board.
Our team developed a bond with Dr. Wedding and after the amazing attendance on the WICSEC Micro Learning we asked her to be on our podcast to which she quickly agreed. She’s also agreed to facilitate a WICSEC book club on the topic in the early part of 2021 (so stay tuned). In this podcast episode we delve deeper into systemic racism and why it is so important to be having these conversations and provide more training. We get personal and hear from Dr. Wedding on why this work means so much to her and how we all be part of the solution and lead from wherever we are.
We at Grays Peak are so excited to be partnering up with Dr. Wedding to be able to provide a comprehensive racial impact assessment for human services agencies who may be seeking a deeper dive into their own policies and practices that they may not even realize are contributing to… please contact us if you’re interested in more information.
